The Indian Space Research Organisation will stop producing operational space systems, according to the new Indian Space Policy, which was made public on Thursday, April 20, 2023. Instead, it will concentrate its efforts on research and development of cutting-edge technology.

It stated that the Department of Space shall supervise the assignment of duties described in this policy and guarantee that each stakeholder is adequately authorised to carry out their individual obligations without interfering with those of the others.

  • Non-government organisations (NGEs) are allowed to provide national and international space-based communication services via self-owned, purchased, or leased geostationary orbit (GSO) and non-geostationary satellite orbit (NGSO) satellite networks under the Indian Space Policy-2023, which has been authorised by the Cabinet Committee on Security on April 6.
  • The policy encouraged NGEs to design and develop reusable, recoverable, and reconfigurable technologies and space transportation systems, as well as to manufacture and operate space transportation systems, including launch vehicles and shuttles.
  • According to the policy, ISRO would prioritise advancing human understanding of space and developing new space technologies and applications as the country’s space agency.
