The Rajasthan government has recently given the green light for the development of cutting-edge Geographic Information System (GIS) based 3D models in Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, and Ajmer. This initiative aims to enhance urban development planning and management through the use of advanced technology.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has approved a financial proposal of Rs 106.46 crore to fund the implementation of GIS-based 3D city models and the Rajdhara Satellite Imagery Repository projects in Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, and Ajmer.
The utilization of GIS-based 3D models will greatly facilitate various aspects of urban planning, including land use proposals, the construction of new roads and infrastructure, drainage systems, transportation planning, and town planning. By leveraging this technology, assessments, simulations, and effective planning can be carried out more efficiently.
Additionally, the development of a virtual tour using Augmented Reality or Virtual Reality based on the 3D models will allow users to experience the cities in a unique and immersive way.
Furthermore, the establishment of a satellite imagery repository on the Rajdhara platform will enable the analysis of land use, changes in water sources and forest areas, crop yield estimation, and the growth of urban areas, among other applications. Various departments will have access to this repository to fulfill their specific requirements.

In another significant decision, the government has allocated Rs 66 crore for the development of Lavkush Gardens in all districts of the state. These gardens will serve as centers for eco-tourism, featuring models and exhibits related to forests and wildlife. They will provide an educational platform for children to learn about environmental protection and wildlife conservation. The gardens will include eco-trail paths, exhibition spaces, and facilities aimed at raising awareness and fostering a sense of responsibility towards environmental preservation.
The establishment of GIS-based 3D models and the satellite imagery repository, along with the development of Lavkush Gardens, highlight the Rajasthan government’s commitment to leveraging technology and environmental conservation to enhance urban planning, education, and sustainable tourism in the state.
